Healthy Guide to Jamaica

unnamed-109A roundup of the wellness news from Island Outpost – including a new detox retreat, an unexpected Jet Ski workout, new beauty line, and an overnight stay on a private farm.

Wellness Retreat Worth the Vacation Days

The New Years Revolution Retreat at GoldenEye, January 5-10, 2016, is the first all-inclusive retreat offered at the hotel. During this five-night getaway, guests will participate in Reggaelates, Island Outpost’s signature workout where Pilates meets yoga meets Reggae music; paddleboard yoga in the aqua marine Lagoon; sunset stretches; FieldSpa treatments; and a cleanse-focused menu with daily fresh-squeezed juices. Rates start at $6,000 per person (based on single occupancy) or $7,000 per couple (based on double occupancy).

An Unexpected Workout

When fast speed is combined with bumpy waters while jet skiing, guests can have fun and experience an effective work out burning up to 400 calories per hour. Standing up adds more of a challenge for the core, quads, hamstrings, and upper body. Jetskiing at GoldenEye is also a great way to explore the undiscovered coves of Jamaica. See sites only accessed by sea such as Robins Bay with its pristine black sand or visit Laughing Waters, where Ursula Andress famously emerged from the surf in Bond film, Dr. No.

New Homegrown Body Oils

Island Outpost is launching their own collection of body oils for the hotels’ FieldSpas this fall. The products, which are used in their various treatments, include the Warming Essential Oil blend with Pimento and Ginger; Cooling Essential Oil blend with peppermint and sweet orange; and Purifying Essential Oil blend with wild lime, grapefruit, and rosemary. All ingredients are grown in Jamaica (with some grown at Pantrepant) and bottled in recycled glass.

A True Farm to Fork Experience

Pantrepant, a 2,500-acre farm located in the Trelawny Parish of Jamaica, has been providing produce to all three Island Outpost properties. Guests of GoldenEye, Strawberry Hill, and The Caves can now also stay at Pantrepant, a private retreat in a two-bedroom cottage and feast on fresh cuisine. Head Chef Mama J uses authentic ingredients including ackee and just-picked Calalloo drizzled with farm-grown and house-made scotch bonnet pepper oil to accompany traditional savory dishes such as salt fish. All-inclusive overnight stays start at $1,500 per night (based on double occupancy). Day visits are also available and start at $125 per person.
