‘Gumbo Rumble’ Set for Return At Third Annual CrawDebauchery Food & Music Festival

The popular “Gumbo Rumble” will once again be a part of the CrawDebauchery Food & Music Festival, event organizers announced here today.

The third annual CrawDebauchery Food & Music Festival is scheduled for April 2-3 at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater Field. Featuring New Orleans crawfish and music, the festival has expanded to two days.

In addition to a massive crawfish boil, food and art vendors, the festival will feature top tier musicians over the two days to include the headliner – Galactic – on Saturday night.

Famous master chefs will judge the “Gumbo Rumble” entries to determine who has the best recipe in South Florida. The recipe must contain okra and rice.

“For the first time, we have opened the competition to the public,” said event founder Don Matthews. “We’re looking forward to seeing who produces the best gumbo in the area. It should be a lot of fun.”

The entry price for the competition is $100 and each entrant must provide their own 10×10 tent as well as tables and chairs. The festival will provide space and power.

Competition prizes will include a customized trophy as well as free entry into the 2017 “Gumbo Rumble.” Additionally, there will be a prize for the best decorated tent.

“The idea behind this competition is to literally bring a taste of Louisiana to South Florida,” said Matthews. “Most scholars agree that gumbo originated in Louisiana in the early 18th century, so its history is deeply rooted.”
