GREEN ROOM JAZZ WITH BOBBY LEE RODGERS

Jazz is alive and well in South Florida again!  The Green Room, 100 SW Third Avenue in Ft. Lauderdale, proudly presents “Green Room Jazz Sessions” featuring the nationally acclaimed performer Bobby Lee Rodgers.  Beginning Thursday, September 23 and for one Thursday a month for the next six months, Rodgers and his group will highlight the work of legendary Jazz greats like John Coltrane, Miles Davis and more.  Doors open at 7PM and admission is just $15.00.

“When Bobby approached us about the idea, we thought it was a perfect concept for the ambiance and intimacy of our space,” says Jeff John, owner/operator of the Green Room.  “The jazz audiences in South Florida are underserved and to have a program like this with a performer the caliber of Bobby Lee Rodgers is just awesome.  We will have wine tastings and other amenities to make it all special.”

Each month Rodgers will highlight a legendary Jazz great and perform two sets totally covering a variety of that artist’s work.  September 23rd is scheduled to be the music of Miles Davis.

Future Thursday performances include:

October 28th – Wes Montgomery

November 18th – John Coltrane

December 16th – Bobby’s Originals

January 20th – Thelonius Monk

February, 24th – A Variety of Jazz Greats

Bobby Lee Rodgers is a musical prodigy who upon graduation from the University of Georgia became a professor at the Berklee School of Music at the ripe old age of only 23.  He taught there for five years before returning to Atlanta where he met up with Col. Bruce Hampton (of Aquarium Rescue Unit fame) and formed the band the Codetalkers.  The band toured for eight years with Rodgers writing all the music.  Rodgers eventually went out on his own to form the Bobby Lee Rodgers Trio and has been touring and recording ever since.  Rodgers plays through a Leslie 145 and an Echoplex and a 1966 Super reverb. His baby is his Gibson 125, all original 1949 guitar.  By playing through the Leslie he is able to adapt the organ type phrasings to his guitar, giving the sound a combination of guitar and organ.

“Jazz has enhanced the voice I want to portray to the world and is inside all my music,” says Rodgers.  “I truly want to keep the spirit of jazz alive so it is passed on to future generations. Jazz has allowed me to create my own style which was influenced by these amazing, timeless jazz musicians who should not be forgotten. There is so much soul in Jazz and I would like to honor them through my performances on these nights.”

“Green Room Jazz Sessions,” featuring the Bobby Lee Rodgers begins Thursday, September 23rd at 7PM and continues for one Thursday per month through February 24th.  Admission is $15.00 and there will be wine tastings and a hors d’oeuvres menu.  Table seating reservations are available by contacting Michelle at (954)449-1030.  The Green Room is located at 100 SW Third Avenue right next door to Revolution Live in Ft. Lauderdale.
