The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau (GFLCVB) hosted a “Night at the Newseum” on April 6, 2016, welcoming members of the meetings and associations industry and local Washington, D.C. media. The event also served as a farewell to Nicki E. Grossman, who is retiring as the GFLCVB’s president after 21 years.
The evening event was attended by more than 140 meetings and association industry members and media, who were briefed on the destination’s powerhouse status for meetings, conventions and exhibitions and growing appeal as one of the top leisure destinations in the country for the affluent traveler. The county-wide development boom continues a transformation that started two decades ago with brand elevation into a must-visit destination for affluent business and leisure travelers.
“We are excited to be back in the nation’s capital to update one of our key markets on our tremendous destination growth,” said Nicki E. Grossman. “With $1 billion in hotel and condo investment attracting affluent travelers from D.C. and worldwide, we are really hitting our stride in all areas of tourism, but especially meetings and conventions.”
With a new Convention Center District Enhancement Project in development, featuring meetings oriented hotels, retail and dining plus multi-billion dollar expansions of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Port Everglades, and increased accessibility by the new Brightline High Speed Rail project coming online in 2017, as well as the long-awaited relocation of the Convention Center security checkpoint, Greater Fort Lauderdale is hosting meetings county-wide in its signature SUNsational style.
