Annual Firefly Party At The Barnacle
The Barnacle Society will host its Annual Firefly Party from 7 to 10pm. This year’s event will be a hoedown on the lawn of The Barnacle Historic State Park, 3485 Main Highway, which includes a Chuckwagon Supper, music by The Ramblers, and even a line dance instructor. Tickets are $25 for members, $30 non-members, $35 At the Door, and $5 for children. Americas Collection Presents Antonia Guzman
During the months of November and December 2009, The Americas Collection will present Lazos de Amor (Love Ties) an exhibition of Guzmán’s most recent work. Stop by the gallery, 214 Andalusia, from 7 to 10pm for the opening reception. In this new series, her paintings are visual poems that revolve around her family life and the many complexities that emanate from it. Each painting offers a glimpse into a moment in time in which an intimate exchange is taking place. Guzmán titles her paintings carefully, offering some clarity by connecting the dots between the viewer’s personal interpretation and the artist’s intent. UM Frost Concert Jazz Band
Special Guest Matt Harris joins the UM Frost Concert Jazz Band at UM Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Rd at 8pm. Matt Harris graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree and from the Eastman School of Music with a Master’s Degree in Jazz Composition. He moved to Los Angeles after touring with jazz greats Maynard Ferguson and Buddy Rich. Matt has two CDs of original music, two published piano books, and more than 150 pieces of music. Matt is currently Director of Jazz Studies at California State University Northridge, directing the award winning Jazz “A” Band and teaching. Tickets are $15.
