Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida Hosted its Annual “Inspired by U” Meeting & Recognition Ceremony to Recognize Volunteers and Members

The Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida hosted its Annual “Inspired by U” Meeting and Recognition Ceremony at Hyatt Regency Coral Gables at the Alhambra. During the ceremony, the membership reviewed the accomplishments of the Council during the 2009-2010 fiscal year. In addition, they elected new board members, delegates to the National Council Session Convention and members to the Council Nominating Committee. This year’s keynote speaker was Katherine Fernandez-Rundle, Miami-Dade State Attorney.

“It’s great to honor a group of individuals that during the year helps the organization become stronger and capable of servicing many more girls in our community,” said Maria T. Tejera, CEO of the Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida.

During the Recognition Ceremony, the Council honored adult members for their outstanding services and their continuous efforts to help provide thousands of girls with programs that build girls of courage, confidence and character.  The awards included the Appreciation Pin and the Honor Pin. Appreciation Pins were awarded to Bernadette Adams, Connie Benson, Cheryl Nodarse, Ana Palacio, and Marva Pittman. The Honor Pin was awarded to Barbara Wach. For this first time this year, a group of selected volunteers was awarded with the Juliette’s Pearl Award, an award created specifically for the Council. The recipients of the Juliette’s Pearl Award included: Elsie Romero, Grace O’Donnell, Peggy Wingard, Suzanne Levitt, Jackie Collins, Georgia McLean, Patricia Cruz, Wanda Hewitt and Elvira Dopico.

The honorees were chosen by the Recognitions Task Group after reviewing many entries sent by the members who wish to recognize a volunteer for their outstanding service. To learn more about Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida, please visit www.girlscoutsfl.org or call (305) 253-4841.
