Don’t miss two concerts at Miami Beach’s beautiful Art Deco Colony Theater with some of the best of emerging Contemporary World Music artists! The night begins with Russian Red, the stage name for Lourdes Hernández, a singer-songwriter based in Madrid, Spain. Her beautifully crafted, minimal songs beam delicate folk harmonies and lustrous vocals, originally formed in 2007, by Lourdes and Brian Hunt.
The moniker for Lourdes comes from a lipstick color she frequently uses. The evenings closes with Singer-songwriter Alex*Cuba who’s trademark sugarcane-sweet melodies, pop-soul hooks and rock chords subtly subvert commonly held notions of what Cuban music is. Alex is the vanguard, crafting a cross-cultural sound. Not tied to tradition, this Cuban-Canadian prefers his vintage Gibson over el sencerro (cowbell) anytime.
