Join the Frost Symphony Orchestra for an evening of quintessential American classics, led by maestro Gerard Schwarz. The program opens with David Diamond’s Fourth Symphony, a work by one of the 20th century’s foremost American composers, known for his rich legacy of eleven symphonies and his mentorship of influential figures like Adolphus Hailstork, Lowell Liebermann and Eric Whitacre.
The orchestra then moves to Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, originally composed as a ballet for Martha Graham. This beloved piece captures the spirit of Americana, with its sweeping melodies and evocation of the American landscape, creating a sense of hope and renewal.
The evening concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s celebrated “New WorldSymphony,” written during his time as director of the National Conservatory of Music of America in the 1890s. This masterpiece blends Dvořák’s Czech roots with the sounds and rhythms he encountered in America, including the haunting English horn solo in the second movement, which later inspired the spiritual “Going Home.” Tickets start at $10.
