The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum and Florida International University are co-sponsoring the 2013 International Sculpture Symposium, “Makers & Shapers,” in Miami, from December 1-4, 2013. The event, organized by the International Sculpture Center (ISC), will bring together artists, collectors, curators and art enthusiasts for panel discussions, keynote addresses, optional tours, a reception, and a multi-day iron pour by the Iron Maidens, an international sculpture group. The symposium marks the first ISC program held in the city of Miami, immediately precedes Art Basel Miami Beach, which takes place December 5-8. The two events provide artists and enthusiasts from around the world an opportunity to participate in a week of dynamic cultural events.
The FIU portion of the program will be held at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center and the Frost Art Museum and its renowned Sculpture Park. Among other activities, participants will have the opportunity to tour the Sculpture Park on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Featured speakers at the Symposium include internationally acclaimed sculptors Steve Tobin, Ursula von Rydingsvard and Guerra de la Paz, among others. Other activities will take place at various venues in and around Miami and Miami Beach.
Other sponsors include the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Discover Jersey Arts, The Fountainhead Residency and the Knight Foundation.
