Knight Concert Hall – Adrienne Arsht Center

FREE ADMISSION

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, in partnership with Miami gospel radio station WMBM 1490 AM, proudly present DONALD LAWRENCE and MIAMI MASS CHOIR on April 21 at 4 p.m. as part of the 2012-2013 FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS concert series. Hosted by audience favorite CALVIN HUGHES, evening anchor on ABC Local 10, this performance marks the culmination of the series’ sixth consecutive season.

This performance of FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS is made possible with the support of Knight Foundation, Miami-Dade County, the state of Florida, Bill and Beverly Parker and the Israel, Rose, Henry and Robert Wiener Foundation in memory of Deacon Willie Harris of the Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church and in honor of his wife Evelyn and his loving family.

The creatively righteous mind of Grammy Award-winning producer, composer and recording artist DONALD LAWRENCE has set the standard for excellence in the gospel music field over the last two decades with signature number one radio hits such as “Back II Eden,” “Encourage Yourself” and “The Blessing of Abraham” which spent 18 weeks at the top of the Billboard “Hot Gospel Songs” radio chart. On his latest masterwork YRM (Your Righteous Mind), Lawrence blends the classicism of traditional gospel music and retro soul grooves with uplifting messages of self-affirmation and daily “How-to-Faith” lessons. He has collaborated with artists as diverse as Mary J. Blige, jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis and the legendary Clark Sisters. In addition, DONALD LAWRENCE has served as music director for BET’s “Sunday Best” television talent show as well as Verizon Wireless’ spokesperson for its “How Sweet The Sound” (HSTS) national gospel choir talent competition.

FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS will also feature performances by the Arsht Center’s resident ensemble, Miami Mass Choir. Under the direction of Pastor Marc Cooper, the Miami Mass Choir consists of 60 of Miami’s best gospel voices, selected through an open audition process, and representing South Florida from Lauderhill to Florida City.

Admission to FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS is FREE; however, First-Access Passes for the FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS performance on April 21, 2013 will be available beginning March 26.

On the day of the performance, patrons who do not have a First-Access Pass can join the stand-by line beginning at 3 p.m. outside the theater. Patrons in the stand-by line will be let into the theater at 3:45 p.m. if seats are still available.
