Florida Grand Opera’s Studio Artists will arrive in mid-October to become the face of opera in Miami and Fort Lauderdale for the Fall concert series. The Studio Artists would normally spend the fall season performing featured and comprimario roles alongside FGO’s roster of acclaimed directors, conductors, and musicians. Due to the pandemic, they will become the face of FGO bringing opera to the community through a series of concerts and recitals at museums, churches, the Doral Center, and in patrons homes through a virtual gateway.

With a focus on holistic skill development, Studio Artists study vocal interpretation, acting, language, movement, and personal business practices in individual coaching sessions and classes by accomplished industry colleagues. Further career-building opportunities including agent/house auditions, media interviews, portfolio development, donor relations, social media content creation, bilingual immersion, and collaborations with fellow arts and young professional organizations throughout the vibrant South Florida community are regular occurrences during this time.

For singers, The Studio Artist program begins with a prescreening process that includes a resume plus audio and/or video recordings. Every year, FGO receives applications from more than 500 singers; of those, close to 200 were heard in live auditions in Miami and New York. During a residency of up to two years or more, FGO Studio Artists receive specialized training in voice, movement, and languages, and are afforded numerous performance opportunities.

All events will be held in accordance with CDC guidelines for social distancing. Masks will be required.

SongFest Series

This season, Florida Grand Opera’s SongFest series contains two concerts that highlight the romantic and witty operettas of Victor Herbert (Naughty Marietta, Babes in Toyland, Orange Blossoms), as well as exploring the ever popular genres of 20th & 21st century opera and musical theater.
