Florida Grand Opera Announces 2020-2021 Season Will Not Move Forward

Florida Grand Opera

Florida Grand Opera’s 2020-2021 mainstage seasons at the Adrienne Arsht and Broward Performing Arts Centers have been stalled until the following year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. All ticket buyers will be contacted and tickets can be donated or exchanged for future productions.

FGO’s highest priority is the health and well-being of our patrons, performers, administrative and technical staff. It is a difficult, yet crucial decision not to move forward as planned with our 2020-21 Season at both the Arsht and Broward Performing Arts Centers. We are deeply saddened that this decision is not just a necessary and right step; it is the only step. The change in plan is necessitated by our ultimate goal to ensure that Florida Grand Opera continues to inspire opera audiences and artists for generations to come.

Chief Marketing Officer Nicholas Svorinich said, “despite our best efforts, we have not had the chance to get back to the theaters for opera performances. The auditoriums and concert halls are dark. The detail involved in ensuring everyone’s safety is immense. Any allowed occupancy in a socially distanced setting is not financially viable for large scale opera’s demands. Many of our patrons do not feel safe returning to the theater until after an effective, safe vaccine is readily available.”

Florida Grand Opera CEO, Susan Danis commented: “We have had to made the extremely difficult decision, based on county guidelines for large gatherings and the advice of health officials. We want nothing more than to get back to creating beautiful and magical productions in the grand theaters, yet everyone’s safety comes first. In the meantime, we are pleased to bring you both concerts and small opera performances throughout both Miami Dade and Broward counties, observing social distancing and CDC guidelines. We hope you will consider joining us for one of these very special events or enjoying them via the virtual option.”

SongFest Series

This season, Florida Grand Opera’s SongFest series will explore the ever popular genres of 20th & 21st century opera and musical theater.

Each SongFest series will feature all members of FGO’s Studio Artist Program, giving audiences a chance to discover new repertoire and the artist’s extraordinary talent off the mainstage.
