The Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), produced and presented by Miami Dade College (MDC), will host Fellini at the Tower, an evening in honor of legendary filmmaker Federico Fellini, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the College’s Tower Theater in Little Havana. This event is presented in collaboration with the City of Miami Mayor’s International Council and City of Margherita di Savoia (Italy) Mayor, the Honorable Gabriella Carlucci. The event is invitation-only. The working media is welcome.
Fellini at the Tower will feature one of the director’s most intriguing films, City of Women (La cittá delle donne), about a traveling businessman whose fling with a woman on a train is cut short when she suddenly leaves. His pursuit of her begins a dreamlike journey that leads him to a feminist convention at a grand hotel where he finds himself trapped and threatened by a mass of women.
Gianfranco Angelucci, former head of the Fellini Foundation in Rimini (Italy), will introduce the film. Angelucci is a director, screenwriter, author, and film professor who worked closely with Fellini for many years. He is the author of Federico F., a semi-biographical novel about Fellini’s last days.
Following the screening, there will be a Taste of Puglia food sampling, sponsored by Mayor Carlucci and Puntino Key Biscayne restaurant, serving Italian dishes reminiscent of Fellini films.
The event also marks the opening of At the Table with Fellini, an exhibition of Fellini memorabilia making its U.S. premiere at MDC’s historic Tower Theater. The exhibition features posters, designs and notes – including restaurant napkins used by Fellini to scribble words and drawings.
In addition, the Tower Theater will present a retrospective of select Fellini films from Friday, Sept. 30, through Sunday, Oct. 16, during which time the exhibition will be free and open to the public.
