This March, sailing will be introduced to the public in a whole new way – through art. Coconut Grove’s Fashion + Art + Music night is pleased to present the BACARDI Miami Sailing Week Art Exhibit.
The exhibit will feature three different components: Italian artist and painter, Roberto Fiorentino, will feature his “OFFshore” collection in his pop-up “WeGallery” inside CocoWalk. Many of his works are sailing inspired pieces that explore different painting techniques. Bright, glistening characteristics dominate Roberto’s work: a purely recreational act, unaffected by any sort of logical complexity. Roberto’s past exhibitions, including those in New York, Florence, Sorrento, Milan, Naples, have all received critical acclaim and he has been featured in several publications.
For this years exhibit, BACARDI Miami Sailing Week has also partnered with Wooden Boat Magazine, a publication for wooden boat owners and builders and boat builder George Krewson to build an original 11 ft Shellback sailboat in one-week time. A temporary boat-building shed will be set-up in CocoWalk that, coincidently, was home, back in the 1950’s, of a real boat building business.
There will also be a photography installation which will display beautiful images of the past BACARDI Miami Sailing week around CocoWalk.
The exhibit will run from Saturday, March 5 to Sunday, March 12 with an opening night reception at 6:00 p.m. inside CocoWalk on March 5 and sponsored by BACARDI and Bice Bistro.
In addition to these events, celebrated artist Daniel Pontet will conduct an artistic performance inside CocoWalk with accompanying musicians. The artist’s technique is very unique as he interacts with his canvas to create art made with his feet. He calls it art experience and he uses the action painting movement as his reference for great work he creates.
Additional events will be held in the District as well, such as fashion and trunk shows, special offers from participating restaurants as well as more live art and music throughout the neighborhood.
The Fashion + Art + Music Night is a neighborhood celebration that showcases musicians and artists who display their work in participating businesses. It is sponsored by the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District to promote cultural tourism. It is a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors to become acquainted with local businesses and the art community.
