A universally beloved hit on the film festival circuit, including in Toronto and New York, the uniquely effervescent and hilarious Frances Ha begins its South Florida Premiere run at the Coral Gables Art Cinema on Friday, May 24, playing seven-days-a-week. Directed by the Oscar nominated Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale, Greenberg), and co-written with the film’s star, indie-favorite Greta Gerwig (To Rome With Love) , Frances Ha is a pitch perfect comedy that gives new life to the twenty-something coming-of-age story. Gerwig plays Frances, an aspiring dancer in New York City who stumbles her way – blithe and earnest – through a life of almost chances and missed opportunities in work and love.

Filmed in beautiful black and white, Frances Ha is at heart a story about female friendship that is both hip and genuine, uplifting and satiric. A fount of optimism, Frances is singularly compelling because she never lets anything – including reality – slow her down. Using the clever framing device of Frances’ constant moves across New York from sublet to house sitting to bad rental every couple of months, the film maintains a deft and sophisticated momentum. Screening in 2K Digital Cinema Projection, Frances Ha also stars up-and-coming young actors Mickey Sumner (musician Sting’s daughter) as Frances’ best friend and sometimes rival, and Adam Driver, most notably one of the male stars of the HBO series Girls. The New Yorker raves,”Filled with such a sweet spirit of joy,” and Variety calls it, “An affectionate, stylishly black-and-white portrait…capturing the spirit of a generation.”

Gables Cinema Director Robert Rosenberg says, “Frances Ha is hands down one of my favorite films of the year, and certainly one of the most unabashedly entertaining. This is filmmaking that does not miss a beat, yet feels utterly real and intimate.” Tickets for all screenings are $11.50 and under and are available for purchase in advance on the Cinema’s website at www.gablescinema.com or in person at the box office during regular screening hours.
