The Miami Dolphins and Florida’s Blood Centers (FBC) will hold the third annual Touchdown for Life blood drive on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Sun Life Stadium, with support from Publix. This is the largest single-day blood drive in the state of Florida. This year, the Dolphins and FBC hope to break the previous record of 1,565 pints of blood set last year.
The first 1,750 registered participants will receive a free ticket to a Miami Dolphin’s game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, November 20th, courtesy of Florida’s Blood Centers. All donors will have the opportunity to meet players, cheerleaders and alumni, obtain autographs and get a free Touchdown for Life t-shirt.
“We invite all Dolphins fans who are able to donate blood to join us in helping save lives right here in our backyard,” said Mike Dee, Dolphins’ CEO. “There’s always a need for blood in our community so we urge everyone who is able to donate to come out and give alongside us.”
“One in three of us will need blood in our lifetime,” said Mike Pratt, FBC’s chief operating officer and interim CEO. “We are grateful to the Dolphins for helping us call attention to the daily need for blood donations and the importance of being prepared for any disaster or medical need facing our community. Blood donations help save the lives of trauma patients, premature babies, cancer patients and those facing planned or unplanned medical procedures.”
