Does Miami Heat MVP Dwyane Wade Stay in Miami?

The June/July edition of Haute Living Miami exciting cover story featuring Dwyane Wade seeks to answer the question on many Miamians minds: Will Wade, who opted out of his contract with the Miami Heat at the end of the 2009/2010 season, stay in Miami or will he go?

The article is focused around the Miami Heat’s “We Want Wade” campaign, which allows fans to virtually interact with Wade on www.WeWantWade.com by uploading videos and sending messages about why he should keep tearing up the courts at American Airlines Arena. The site features protocol for fans about how to remind Wade of South Florida should they spot Wade out at a Miami hot spot, and many of fans have taken those protocols to heart. In the article, Wade explains, “Florida is known for its orange juice, so people have been sending me oranges—things like that to make me remember South Florida wherever I go. It makes me feel welcome, knowing the city is behind me through thick and thin. I appreciate the Heat and the fans’ support for that.” In the piece, Wade also discusses the factors that are weighing on his decision, which will be announced in early July.

“Miami is ‘Wade County,’ and Haute Living is just as interested in our city’s most admirable player’s decision as everyone else in the town,” explains Haute Living publisher Seth Semilof. “But, as he says in the article, life is about more than basketball, and we also wanted our readers to learn about Dwyane’s passion for bettering the community.”

The feature also explores the impact of his Wade World Foundation, which provides support for educational, health, and family service programs throughout the city, with a focus on underserved communities. This summer, Wade will once again team up with former Heat teammate Alonzo Mourning for The Summer Groove Hosted by Zo + D. Wade.

“Dwyane’s impact on Miami extends far beyond the basketball court. Haute Living is about more than just luxury items,” says Haute Living CEO Kamal Hotchandani. “It is an important part of our editorial mission to call attention to the philanthropic endeavors of high-profile members of our community, thus calling our affluent readership to action.”
