To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Design Mix, the South Florida design community will be raising the roof and taking it back old-school style with a 90’s themed fashion show. Design Mix is an annual fundraising event presented by The International Interior Designer Association (IIDA) South Florida Chapter. This year, guests will be encouraged to bring back grunge, boy bands and plaid on Saturday, April 4th, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at The Fillmore Miami Beach (located at 1700 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL. 33139).
IIDA South Florida Chapter advocates for advancements in education, design excellence, legislation, leadership, accreditation and community outreach to increase the value and understanding of Interior Design as a profession. Design Mix is the organization’s signature event which raises funds to award scholarships to exemplary interior design students, legislation advocacy efforts, and continuing educational support to their practicing professionals. The focus of the event is to pair industry members with design firms in a joint mission to fabricate wearable garments made entirely out of interior finish materials provided by event sponsors. This year’s runway show will begin at 7:30 p.m. and it will feature 25 models rocking the latest trends in textiles, wall coverings, flooring, tiles, etc. All garments will be reviewed and scored by non-industry guest judges who will present awards in various categories including: Best Use of Color, Best Design Detail, Best Use of Material, Best Performance, Most Creative, Most Nostalgic, Most Blingin’, Judge’s Choice and The Homie’s Choice. This year’s judge’s panel includes fashion designers Angel Sanchez and Rene Ruiz.
The 90’s are often referred to the happiest decade of our lifetime. America was prospering, we had the internet and of course, Britney Spears was living her best life! Once the Design Mix fashion show ends, guests will enjoy an exclusive after party featuring live entertainment, specialty cocktails and light bites.
This year’s Event Chairs for Design Mix are IIDA Members Janelle Arauz (from Maharam) and Alexandra Fernandez (from CallisonRTKL). Guests are encouraged to dress the part and follow this year’s 90’s theme by wearing grungy band t-shirts, plaid skirts, flannel and pops of color.
Ticket prices start at $50 for students, up to $150 for non-members (reduced rates apply if purchased early) and $175 at the door.
