Italian Tourist Shot at Maitarde Restaurant on New Year’s Day

Mai Tardi is one of the Design District’s newest stops for gastronomy. Located in the heart of the design district, Miami’s fastest developing neighborhood,  the chic outdoor restaurant made news today, in addition to the rave reviews they have been receiving. The popular Italian restaurant, which has become the most talked about spot in the District, was the scene of an unfortunate incident.

The year started off on a sad note for diners at the eatery. A six year old boy, who was vacationing from Italy with his parents, were celebrating the New Year in the courtyard of the restaurant, when he was struck by a stray bullet to the chest. Totally unaware that it was a gunshot wound, he told his parents he was having stomach pains. They later realized he was wounded, and rushed him to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he is said to be in stable condition and recovering.

On New Year’s Eve, city officials urged the community not to celebrate the New Year using celebratory gunsfire. Unfortunately, the words fell on deaf ears. The mayor, who visited the boy in the hospital was very sorry it happened, and is doing everything to accommodate the family during the remainder of their stay in the Miami area.

The incident, however,  has not scarred the restaurant”s reputation.
