Bryson DeChambeau began his day with a 400-yard drive and finished strong, closing with two birdies to secure the lead heading into Sunday’s final round of LIV Golf Miami. He shot a 2-under 70 on Saturday at Trump National Doral, bringing his total to 5 under, two shots ahead of Sergio Garcia of Fireballs GC.
The leaderboard is competitive, with Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, and Marc Leishman all just one stroke behind Garcia. Jon Rahm and defending champion Dean Burmester are tied for sixth.
“It’s a test of golf out there,” said DeChambeau, the reigning U.S. Open champion. He emphasized the course’s challenges, noting that Saturday’s average score was more than three strokes above par, marking it as one of the toughest rounds in LIV Golf’s history.
Ripper GC leads the team competition with a total score of +9, while 4Aces GC is at +11. The Fireballs and Crushers GC are tied at +12. No team has ever won a LIV Golf tournament with an over-par score.
Throughout his round, DeChambeau demonstrated patience, especially during a challenging stretch of holes. His strategy paid off when he drove the par-4 16th hole and capitalized on his position to secure birdies.
Garcia played steady golf, carding three birdies and only two bogeys, while Mickelson struggled early but managed a comeback to finish at 1-over 73.
Players face an even more demanding challenge on Sunday, with forecasts predicting stronger winds. “I’m up for anything,” DeChambeau said, eager for the upcoming test.
