DAN CARPENTER NAMED AFC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Miami DolphinsFor the second time in three weeks, Miami Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced today by the National Football League.

In the Dolphins’ 22-14 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium, Carpenter accounted for 16 points as he converted on all five of his field goal attempts (38, 42, 24, 54, 31) and a point after attempt.   Among the feats accomplished by the third year pro, was a career long 54-yarder in the second quarter and he became the just the fourth kicker in NFL history, joining John Carney (1994), John Casey (1996) and Richie Cunningham (1997) to convert at least five field goals in consecutive games. The 10 field goals in two games are tied for the most over consecutive games in team history with K Olindo Mare who recorded four made field goals at Indianapolis on October 10, 1999 and a Dolphins record six the following week at New England on October 10, 1999.

On the season, Carpenter has converted 18 of his 20 field goal attempts, of his 8 field goals, six have come from 40 yards or longer including two from over 50 yards.

The award marks the fourth time that Carpenter has been honored as AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Previously in 2010, in the Dolphins’ 23-20 victory over the Green Bay Packers on October 17, 2010 at Lambeau Field, Carpenter accounted for 11 points as he converted on all three of his field goal attempts, including a game winning 44-yarder with 9:01 left in overtime and two point after attempts.
