The internationally acclaimed breakout, Chilean hit film Gloria begins its
Exclusive South Florida First Run Engagement at the Coral Gables Art Cinema starting on Friday, January 24, 2014. An ironic and sometimes crazy dramedy, in Spanish with English subtitles, Gloria tells the universal story of a a fifty-something divorcée looking for love and happiness in the big city. Gloria was Chile’s official selection for this year’s Foreign Language Oscar, and lead actress Paulina García has received universal praise for her beautiful portrayal of the title character, including Best Actress at the Berlin Film Festival.

Gloria is on her own, self-reliant but not completely fulfilled, in the cosmopolitan city of Santiago, Chile. She finds herself surrounded by people too involved with themselves to have much room for Gloria – her two grown children, her cad of an ex-husband, her drug addled neighbor and most amusingly, a parade of middle age potential boyfriends. When her budding relationship with the out-of-shape but possibly winning Rodolfo takes off, the plot thickens and takes some unexpected and comic turns. Gloria is an intimate and honest portrayal of grownup modern-day romance that speaks to audiences wherever they are. The Hollywood Reporter calls Gloria, “Funny, melancholy and ultimately uplifting,” and Variety says it’s, “…pitch-perfect and terrifically written.”

Gables Cinema Director Robert Rosenberg says, “We continue to be a major South Florida showcase for Latin American filmmaking with this magical, seductive and thoroughly charming movie.” Tickets for regular screenings are $11.50 and under and can be purchased in advance on the Cinema’s website at www.gablescinema.com or in person at the box office during regular screening hours.
