Corin Hewitt at Dorsch Gallery

Dorsch Gallery is pleased to announce Drying Flowers with Microwaves, a solo exhibition by Corin Hewitt running from May 7 – June 5, 2010. A reception for the artist will be held on Friday May 7, 7-9pm. We will also be open for Second Saturday Artwalk on May 8, 7-10pm.

Hewitt’s multi-layered work is at once an installation, performance, and commentary on the impossibility of capturing a complete image. He will set up a makeshift studio within the gallery into which viewers can only partially see, and within it he will create the photos that later become part of the exhibition. The piece emphasizes that knowledge is a process, not an end, especially in fields like theater, performance art, photography and genres of still life and craft. Such a philosophy extends to some of the most pressing issues – life, work, death, time and art. His performance at Dorsch Gallery is a continuation of an evolving body of performances including Seed Stage, a 2008 performance/exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Hewitt will be present and working in Dorsch Gallery from May 7 – 12 and 14 – 19 during regular gallery hours.
