COMMON THREADS TEAMS UP WITH THE MIAMI DOLPHINS AND LOCAL CHEFS TO OFFER MIAMI STUDENTS COOKING, NUTRITION EDUCATION & PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

COMMON THREADSCommon Threads, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting health and wellness to children, families and communities through cooking and nutrition education, will be collaborating with the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League for a Wellness Extravaganza event scheduled for Monday, Jan. 27, 3 – 5 p.m. at Carrie P. Meek/Westview K-8, 2101 NW 127th Street, North Miami, FL.

The Wellness Extravaganza will be held during one of Common Threads’ Cooking Skills & World Cuisine classes at Carrie P. Meek/Westview K-8, in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Cooking Skills & World Cuisine classes begin with a physical activity unit, which will be hosted by the Miami Dolphins’ team director of sports nutrition, John Parenti. Parenti and local chefs Jon Nguyen of Tran An and Adrianne Calvo of Chef Adrianne’s, Cracked and Red Fish, will also speak to class participants and offer some healthy snacks.

Cooking Skills & World Cuisine is a nine week after-school program that teaches elementary and middle school students about cooking and nutrition. Students “travel around the globe” by cooking foods from a different country, learning about international customs and cuisine.

Common Threads is a national nonprofit that provides children and families cooking and nutrition education to encourage healthy habits that contribute to wellness. We equip under-resourced communities with information to make affordable, nutritious and appealing food choices wherever they live, work, learn, and play. We know that food is rooted in culture and tradition so we promote diversity in our lessons and recipes, encouraging our participants to celebrate the world around them.
