Join The CLEO Institute and NBC6 at Coral Gables Art Cinema as we close out Earth Month with a special documentary film screening followed by a panel discussion.

Presented by NBC6, Climate in Crisis is a look back at the biggest climate stories of 2023. It is also a look forward to powerful climate change solutions. First Alert meteorologist Steven MacLaughlin discusses record heat, sea level rise, climate gentrification, stronger hurricanes, rapidly intensifying storms, and managed retreat in South Florida.

Steve MacLaughlin is an Emmy® award-winning meteorologist at NBC6. He joined the station in February of 2017 as a meteorologist and climate change reporter.  His career began as an intern for NBC 4 in New York City. MacLaughlin was later hired as a weather producer for NBC 4 and for NBC’s “Today” show, where he worked with his mentor, Al Roker.

John Morales is the longest tenured broadcast meteorologist in South Florida, serving as a reassuring television presence for nearly three decades. His tropical weather acumen and steadfast character guided South Florida viewers through hurricanes Andrew, Irene, Katrina, Wilma, and most recently Hurricane Irma. For his life-saving work during the 2017 season, Mr. Morales was recognized with the John Coleman Broadcast Award at the National Tropical Weather Conference.

Chelsea Ambriz is a weekend morning meteorologist and climate change reporter who joined the NBC6 First Alert Weather team in August 2022. Before joining NBC6 she spent three years as a meteorologist at WeatherNation in Denver, Colorado.

Ariel Rodríguez is a meteorologist for Noticiero Telemundo 51 in the 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM editions on Telemundo 51 Miami/WSCV. Rodríguez also hosts a weekly environmental segment titled “Alerta Verde” which airs on Tuesdays during the 5:00 AM and 5:30 PM newscasts. As part of the Noticiero Telemundo 51 team, Rodríguez reports weather and other important news for viewers in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area.
