Central Park Experience, New York

Starting in Grand Army Plaza by the General Sherman statue, we will begin with an overview of the Park and its magnificent surroundings! You will see the Arsenal, built between 1847 and 1851 as a munitions depot for New York States National Guard. Well pass within a stones throw of the zoo and your walk leader will talk about the many species housed there.

En route we will also point out some of the many statues in Central Park, including Balto the Alaskan Malamute that saved a community from diphtheria by braving the Artic weather to deliver the necessary anti-toxin! The tour moves on to the Dairy where we will discuss the tainted milk crisis of the 1870s, and the Mall, designed as a Grand Promenade for all seasons.

The tour will continue past the fountain at Bethesda Terrace where youll find the most recognized icon in the area: the Angel of Waters fountain. Finally, no walk through New Yorks most famous park would be complete without a stroll past the Strawberry Fields to pay tribute to John Lennon at the beautiful Imagine mosaic.
