Boys & Girls of Miami-Dade Raises more than $70 K for Youth Development Programs at its 43rd Annual Golf Classic

Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade hosted its successful 43rd Annual Golf Classic on March 24th at the Miccosukee Golf & Country Club. The tournament, chaired by Ben Walker of Cable Connections & Utilities, raised more than $70,000 for the Clubs’ programs. 

“The funds raised from the 43rd Annual Golf Classic will help us continue to provide the high quality youth development programs we provide the children in our community,” said Alex Rodriguez-Roig, Executive Director for Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. 

The event began with a “Break the Glass Skill Challenge” where 128 golf enthusiasts had a chance to play with pro golfer Valeria Ochoa.  The awards banquet was emceed by Michael Baiamonte, the voice of the Miami HEAT and included a raffle and silent auction featuring an array of great items from vacation stays to sports memorabilia. During a special dinner, DeMarcus VanDyke, University of Miami Cornerback and former Club member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade, was honored with a lifetime membership for his achievements, aspiration and hard work. As a child, VanDyke played baseball, basketball and football under Northwest Club Director Kenny Wilcox. 

The 43rd Annual Golf Classic counted with numerous sponsors, such as: Publix Super Market Charities, Carmen Rebozo Foundation, McDonald’s, Café Bustelo, Rum Atlántico, South Florida Auto Dealers Association, CHEVRON, Matty’s Sports, C.C.U Inc., The Collection, CWSI Cable Wiring Specialist, Wells Fargo Advisors, Wells Fargo Insurance, State Farm and Heineken. 

Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade has been serving youth in our community since 1940. What once was a single building and site for boys has grown to five Clubs serving 10,000 boys and girls year round, providing programs in the areas of character and leadership development, educational enhancement, career preparation, health and life skills, cultural arts  and sports, fitness and recreation.
