BAKEHOUSE ART COMPLEX SEEKS APPLICATIONS TO FILL FOUR CURATORIAL FELLOWSHIP POSITIONS

BAKEHOUSEDeadline: November 1, 2019, 5PM EST

With funding from The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Bakehouse Art Complex seeks nominations for and applications from candidates to fill four inaugural curatorial fellowship positions. Nominations/applications will be open until Friday, November 1, 2019 at 5pm EST. Fellows will be appointed for an eight-month term, beginning January 15 and ending September 15, 2020.

This new curatorial fellowship program aims to create greater connectivity between Bakehouse, its artists, and the neighborhood in which they are embedded. It supports the organization’s belief that artists are a crucial part of community-building and that their work can be transformative.

We are seeking candidates—artists, cultural producers, and/or creative professionals from all backgrounds and disciplines—who have the vision, time, and passion to inspire and engage at a hyper-local neighborhood level. Priority will be given to Miami talent, who will work with the organization to co-develop site-specific projects, public programs, and/or installations in and around the Bakehouse campus and the surrounding neighborhood. Fundamental to this fellowship is that the “work” derives from and emphasizes inclusive and participatory community engagement. Candidates must be willing to commit sufficient time over the course of the fellowship, working collaboratively with the internal and external Bakehouse communities (artists, residents, youth, activists, small business owners, and other educational and non-profit leaders). As this is a pilot program, candidates should recognize they will be participating in prototyping and testing the development of a new initiative.

Each fellow will receive an honorarium of $7,500, 24/7 access to workspace, administrative support, and access to funding to cover artists’ stipends and execute community-based projects and programs. Workshops and seminars with other national practitioners will be offered to the fellows and the Bakehouse artist community.

The final selection of fellows will be made by a jury comprised of Bakehouse representatives, its artist community, residents and leaders of the neighborhood, and other local cultural practitioners.

The application deadline is November 1, 2019, 5pm EST.

An info session will be held at Bakehouse Art Complex (561 NW 32 Street, Miami, FL 33127) on Tuesday, October 22 from 6:30 – 7:30PM.

Bakehouse will announce the selection of fellows on December 15, 2019.

Any questions should be directed to apply@bacfl.org. Responses will be posted on the Bakehouse website to ensure fair communication and transparency will all potential candidates.

Spread the love!
