Sawgrass Mills, one of the world’s most popular shopping destinations and the largest outlet, value retail and entertainment center in the United States, and Art and Culture Center of Hollywood are inviting artists to participate in “Gator Glam” presented by Billie Swamp Safari. This juried art exhibition of 7-foot-tall freestanding whimsical alligator sculptures will rebrand the original Sawgrass Mills logo, which incorporated an alligator figure, and will also showcase the artistic talents of a host of contemporary artists in honor of Sawgrass Mills’ 20th anniversary this October.
Artists will submit sketches of their design concept that will transform each fiberglass alligator into a work of art, giving each figure its own unique identity in an array of palettes. A selection committee will choose a minimum of 20 participating artists who will display their creations at The Colonnade Outlets at Sawgrass Mills. The submission deadline for artists is Fri., July 16.
“Sawgrass Mills’ ‘Gator Glam’ presented by Billie Swamp Safari is an extraordinary arts project that will bring the dynamic personality of South Florida and the creativity of its many artists to life,” said Carol Henderson, director of mall marketing and business development of Sawgrass Mills. “We are proud to foster this artist creativity, while at the same time recognizing the immeasurable impact that Sawgrass Mills has had over the past 20 years.”
Sawgrass Mills’ “Gator Glam” presented by Billie Swamp Safari will be on display throughout The Colonnade Outlets at Sawgrass Mills from Mon., Oct. 4 (the official anniversary date) through Thurs., Oct. 28, 2010. An auction event will take place on Thurs., Oct. 7, 2010 and benefit The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood.
“We are excited to present this public art project which will give artists great exposure at the very busy Sawgrass Mills,” said Joy Satterlee, executive director of Art and Culture Center of Hollywood. “We applaud Sawgrass Mills for integrating art into its 20th anniversary celebration.”
