Hublot toasted to the 5th anniversary of Hublot Galerie, the brand’s premiere Design District boutique, celebrating during Art Basel Miami Beach. Returning with the gallery-style boutique highlighting “Hublot Loves Art,” it features a rotation of works by artist Friends of the Brand. This time, Hublot is bringing the beautiful beaches of Miami indoors. Decked in spacious, cool tones with a bar and client entertainment area to create a relaxed atmosphere for perusing the timepieces on display, the new space fuses art and watchmaking, blurring the lines between industries.

Guests walked over to the DASH school in the heart of the Design District, where students could be heard cheering as they approached. They were joined by Shepard Fairey, contemporary artist and brand ambassador, Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, and Anish Melwani, CEO of LVMH America for the big reveal as Shepard greeted guests with a few words about the vision behind his new artwork. While admiring the mural, the group was surprised with a procession of trumpeting music that led everyone back to the boutique, where a DJ welcomed them.

Following the official boutique reopening, VIP, friends of the brand, and media joined Fairey for an intimate luncheon at Wynwood Walls, home to another outdoor mural by the artist. Closed off in a private space in the middle of Art Basel, guests sat together to dine with a DJ juxtaposed to the bustle of the fair. The afternoon ended in Goldman Arts Gallery with private tours of the Shepard Fairey art installation taking guests through Fairey’s influential work.

Ricardo Guadalupe, Shepard FaireyWe are excited to have brand ambassador and friend, Shepard Fairey, join us in celebrating this momentous day for Hublot Galerie. Hublot is always trying to tell a story with not only our watches, but also with our boutiques. The reopened Design District location is a refined approached to bringing together the best of Miami and its culture, and what better artist is there to tell this story with than Shepard Fairey?” (Ricardo Guadalupe-CEO Hublot)

After having the chance to experiment with my art during the process of creating the Big Bang Meca-10 last year, it’s an honor to be in Miami this year to celebrate milestones with Hublot and Wynwood Walls. Facing the Giant is a reflection, not a retrospective because I’m still very actively creating new art, but I like the idea of highlighting both the continuity and evolution of my art and concepts over 30 years. Fairey’s latest mural is painted on the Design and Architecture Senior High school, a top public school with one of the nation’s most recognized art and design programs. With messaging like “Future” and “Vision,” the splash of color welcomes students and passersby alike to the Design District. In Fairey’s signature style, the fearless art empowers the youth to use the might of a brush to propel them into the future.

In 2018, Hublot released the Big Bang Meca-10 Shepard Fairey, co-designed with the artist himself for the “Hublot Loves Art” series. The model is part of the Big Bang Meca-10 family, a newer innovation on Hublot’s signature style with the brand’s in-house movement, a gear-driven mechanical aesthetic, and a 10-day power reserve. The timepiece, developed over a span of two years, showcases an unusual architectural design based around a construction set, with a stylized skeleton revealing the originality of a cogwheel power reserve indicator.

Shepard Fairey’s art is prominently found all over the world. His most recognizable work is his OBEY art project challenging viewers to question authority found on the streets or on a t-shirt, as well as the Barack Obama “Hope” poster which became an iconic representation of the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign. Fairey is part of the 10-year celebration of Wynwood Walls with “Facing the Giant: 3 Decades of Dissent,” a touring global exhibition and series of murals launched at the Goldman Global Arts Gallery at Wynwood Walls. “Facing the Giant” is a curated series of images chosen for their aesthetic and conceptual importance, addressing critical topics and themes recurring throughout Fairey’s career. This selection of works touches on phenomenology, self-empowerment, rebellion, environmental destruction, racism, gender equality, war and peace, and more.
