U2 Named MusiCares 2027 Persons of the Year — Gala Set for Grammy Week at Peacock Theater
Premier Guide Miami ·
MusiCares has named U2 — Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. — as its 2027 Persons of the Year. The 36th annual benefit gala will be held at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Friday, February 5, 2027, two nights before the Grammy Awards at Crypto.com Arena. Celebrating 50 years together since meeting at a Dublin high school in 1976, U2 has won 22 Grammy Awards and sold more than 170 million albums worldwide.
“Their impact goes far beyond the stage. Not only has their music defined generations, but they’ve been equally exemplary in their dedication to humanitarian work and using their platform for good.”
The honor recognizes both the band’s collective legacy and the individual humanitarian work of each member. Bono co-founded ONE and (RED) to fight AIDS and extreme poverty, and played a key role in persuading President Bush to create PEPFAR, which has saved an estimated 26 million lives. The Edge co-founded Music Rising after Hurricane Katrina to replace instruments for musicians and schools affected by disaster. Adam Clayton, a past MusiCares Stevie Ray Vaughan Award recipient, has supported addiction recovery and mental health initiatives including Ireland’s Walk in My Shoes. Larry Mullen Jr. has brought attention to dyslexia and learning differences through his work as a producer on the documentary Left Behind.
“‘Persons of the Year’ couldn’t be a better title as it’s the people we’ve been so fortunate to work with, and of course our indomitable audience, that have given us the opportunity to keep making music and keep rocking the boat on things we really care about.”
For the first time, MusiCares will open the tribute concert portion of the evening to a broader audience. Individual theater seats and gala dinner tables are available at musicares.org/personoftheyear. U2’s first new studio album in nine years is also due for release later this year, with lead single ‘Street of Dreams’ already out.
