National Sake Day: South Florida Restaurants Giving the Japanese Spirit a Cocktail Makeover

While we all love a classic sake bomb or a good old-fashioned pour straight from the bottle, South Florida is giving sake a much more sophisticated shake. In honor of National Sake Day on October 1, here's a look at five restaurants giving the Japanese spirit the cocktail makeover it deserves — think yuzu, lychee, cucumber, matcha and hibiscus shaken, stirred and spritzed into colorful, sippable creations, plus a ticketed sake collaboration dinner readers won't want to miss.

Uchi Miami — "Better Together"
At Uchi Miami, sake takes center stage with the launch of Better Together, an exclusive Junmai Ginjo sake in partnership with Brooklyn Kura, New York's first craft sake brewery. Available starting October 1, the sake features domestically grown Yamada Nishiki rice polished to 60%, resulting in a sip that's velvety yet crisp, fruit-forward yet dry, with notes of honeydew, orange peel, cherry, puffed rice, mochi and cream. The collaboration continues with the Better Together Sake Dinner on Thursday, October 22, at 6:30 p.m., featuring a 10-course tasting pairing Uchi's modern Japanese dishes with the exclusive sake and additional sips. Tickets are $175 per person. 252 NW 25th St., Miami, FL 33127.

Mottai — Sake, Make It Double
It's only right to celebrate National Sake Day at Coral Gables' Mottai, where sake cocktails complement the restaurant's sophisticated take on Japanese cuisine and French Japonisme-inspired décor. The P.M.P Sour ($16) — crafted with nigori sake, Caravedo, Licor 43, matcha, pineapple and pandan — makes for a tangy tropical sip with a subtle green tea finish, while the Yuzu 75 ($16) blends Daiginjo sake, Rémy Martin V, yuzu and prosecco for an elegant, effervescent cocktail. The Plaza Coral Gables, 2881 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables, FL 33134.

Uchiko Miami Beach — Sake Meets Martini
Uchiko Miami Beach puts a Japanese spin on the classic martini with its Lychee Martini ($18), made with Wheatley vodka, nigori sake, lychee and yuzu for a fruity, fun and fragrant sip. For an herbaceous, crisp and sake-forward cocktail, The Uchiko Saketini ($19) packs the flavor with Ketel One Botanical Cucumber & Mint and the award-winning Yuki No Bosha sake. 1759 Purdy Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33139.

Casa Sensei — Sake Toast on Las Olas
Casa Sensei's limited-time Yuzu Spritz ($16), offered exclusively for National Sake Day, features Aladdin Yuzu Sake, lime juice, sugar syrup and club soda, garnished with lemon and mint. Meanwhile, the classic Lycheetini ($15) is always available — silky and delicately sweet with nigori sake, vodka and lychee purée. 1200 E. Las Olas Blvd., Suite 101, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.

MILA Omakase — Sommelier-Curated Sake on Lincoln Road
For National Sake Day, MILA Omakase on Lincoln Road offers a standout place to sip and savor. Named "Best Omakase" in the Miami New Times 2026 Best of Miami Awards, the intimate multicourse experience features curated sake pairings selected by the sommelier to complement each stage of the menu. 800 Lincoln Road, Second Floor, Miami Beach, FL 33139.
