Miami New Drama is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a season that looks both backward and forward. The company that began with a single production at the Colony Theatre on Lincoln Road has grown into one of the most vital theater companies in the country — and the 2026/2027 season makes that case definitively.
The centerpiece of the season is The Golem of Havana, a 10th Anniversary Production returning to the very stage where Miami New Drama began. Set in late-1950s Havana, the musical follows Rebecca, a young Jewish girl who turns to the mythical Golem as her family navigates poverty, political unrest, and the electric final days of the Batista regime. Opening night on January 30th sold out immediately. Performances run January 28 through March 7, 2027.
The season also brings the world premiere of The Great Behind, written by Miami native Carmen Pelaez in her fifth collaboration with Miami New Drama. A bold reinvention of Cyrano de Bergerac set in Miami, it follows Sylvia — a brilliant librarian with a lethal tongue — who agrees to write the love letters that will win her best friend's heart for another woman. Directed by Gordon Greenberg, it runs April 1–25, 2027. Opening night on April 3rd is already sold out.
The season also includes City Hall, an immersive world premiere performed inside a real city hall, where the audience becomes the electorate and every performance ends in a live vote. Subscriptions and single tickets are on sale now at miaminewdrama.org. The Colony Theatre is located at 1040 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, FL 33139.
