Coral Gables Art Cinema has announced it will be the only theater in Florida showing Pedro Almodóvar's new film Bitter Christmas during its first week of release. A members-only preview screening is set for Thursday, November 19 at 8:15 PM, with regular screenings beginning November 20.
Currently playing is Fjord, Cristian Mungiu's Palme d'Or winner starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve. The film follows a couple who relocates with their five children to a remote coastal town, where their rigid beliefs draw suspicion. When allegations of abuse emerge, the family confronts a system of judgment that blurs the line between concern and prejudice. Romania's official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards. The Wall Street Journal called it 'breathtaking cinema in more ways than one.' Showtimes run through October 29.
Also screening is The Gymnasts of Fisherman Colony, an intimate coming-of-age documentary by three-time Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Habiba Nosheen following three teenage girls in Pakistan navigating the margins of society through their passion for gymnastics. On October 27 at 7:30 PM, members can catch a free screening of Wicked — the Academy Award-winning film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
Coming soon: Wild at Heart (October 30, new 4K restoration), Once Upon a Time in Harlem (November 6–12, Miami theatrical premiere), Body Double (November 7, Neo-Noirvember), The Color Purple (November 8), Fatherland and Queen at Sea (both November 13–19), Fantastic Mr. Fox (November 14–15, Family Day), and Evita (November 17, members only). Gables Cinema is also running a Sweet Sixteen Silent Auction with dining experiences and cultural finds. Tickets at gablescinemasociety.org.
