The Tony and Pulitzer Winner Is Coming to Coral Gables — GableStage Brings Liberation to the Biltmore This Spring
Bess Wohl's Liberation, winner of the 2026 Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, gets its Florida premiere at GableStage's intimate 138-seat Wolfson Family Theatre at the Biltmore Hotel, running March 19 through April 18, 2027.
Part of our ongoing curation of what it means to live, love, and play in the Magic City.
The play that won both the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2026 is coming to South Florida. GableStage Theatre Company will present the Florida premiere of Liberation by Bess Wohl at the Wolfson Family Theatre inside the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, running March 19 through April 18, 2027.
Liberation is described as fiercely funny, deeply moving, and radically relevant, which is the kind of language that usually means the play is doing something more uncomfortable than the marketing suggests. It will be directed by GableStage Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport, with a cast including Elizabeth Price, Anne Hering, Irina Kaplan, Sheena O. Murray, Gaby Tortoledo, Lili Mueller, Pam Hankerson, and Andre Brilliant.
The venue matters here. GableStage's Wolfson Family Theatre holds 138 seats, which means there is no bad seat and no distance between the audience and the work. The Biltmore Hotel setting adds its own layer of atmosphere to a production that already arrives with considerable weight behind it.
Two things worth knowing before you go: the production contains nudity and requires all attendees to be 18 or older, or accompanied by a parent. It is also a phone-free experience, with devices secured in Yondr pouches at the door. Subscriptions are available now starting at $315 for a four-show FLEX package, with priority seating for Liberation before single tickets go on sale November 10.
