Amazing Antiques and Rare Books Galoreat Fairchild’s Ramble
Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

Coral Gables, FL, November 2009—The Ramble, one of the oldest festivals in Miami, was started 67 years ago, in hopes of raising money for a much needed truck for Fairchild. Since then, the Ramble has come a long way. The festival, which extends over three days this year starting Friday, attracts over 40 vendors each year who sell everything from garden accessories and art to food and furniture. Perhaps the most special, however, is the amazing collection of items at the Antiques & Collectibles area as well as the Old and Rare Books—not only for what they offer visitors, but for the rich tradition that is kept sacred by the volunteers who quietly work behind the scenes to prepare them each year.

While the entire staff at Fairchild has a role in producing the Ramble festival, the numerous Fairchild volunteers are the key to Rambles success. Volunteers Dorothy Errera, head of Antiques and Collectibles and Stuart Debenham, head of the Old and Rare Books are a testament to that fact.

Each year, Ms. Errera, who has been a volunteer at the garden for over 50 years, begins collecting items from generous donors as early as 10 months before the Festival. Contributions vary from year to year, but they almost always include a wonderful silver collection, fine linens, antique lamps, furniture, glassware and china.

The Old & Rare Books booth has been a long time favorite in finding out-of-print botanical books, non-fiction books as well as current best sellers. This year, Mr. Debenham has a collection of interesting books about orchids, gardening, botany art, literature and sailing as well as cookbooks and children’s books.
