 The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) is pleased to announce the return of more than ten amazing concerts and performances with the8th season of the LIVE AT KNIGHT series. The 2021-2022 season features a thrilling lineup of global superstars, including GIPSY KINGS, JAY LENO, PATTI LaBELLE and JOSE FELICIANO, fan favorites such as THE ULTIMATE QUEEN CELEBRATION and PINK MARTINI, tributes to music legends ASTOR PIAZZOLLA, EDITH PIAF, MARIAN ANDERSON and JESSYE NORMAN, and so much more — all live and in-person in Miami’s acoustic gem, the Knight Concert Hall.

 

The 2021-2022 LIVE AT KNIGHT series is supported by Spirit Airlines, Bacardi and Café Bustelo.

Tickets for DISNEY PRINCESS – THE CONCERT and QUINTETO ASTOR PIAZZOLLA are available now. Tickets for all other performances will be available to Arsht Center Culturist members beginning July 27 at noon, and to the general public on July 29 at noon. In celebration of Astor Piazzolla’s 100th birthday, the Arsht Center is proud to present the Miami debut of the Grammy-nominated QUINTETO ASTOR PIAZZOLLA.

 

With more than 20 years of worldwide performances, QUINTETO ASTOR PIAZZOLLA continues to promote the endlessly unique repertoire of the great composer and musician Astor Piazzolla, reviving the sound in the current landscape and bringing it to new audiences around the globe who have yet to experience the magic of this music.

 

The quintet was Piazzolla’s preferred ensemble, and it was the medium through which he developed the sound of Nuevo Tango, thus becoming a trademark of his performance career.

 

This legacy group, founded by Laura Escalada Piazzolla, is integrated by world-class musicians who perform Piazzolla’s original arrangements for quintet with an unmatched degree of virtuosic skill and rich artistic interpretation, remaining stylistically loyal to the sound of Piazzolla.

Flamenco, Latin rhythms and Western pop come together in the irresistible music of GIPSY KINGS, the Grammy Award-winning, chart-topping world music superstars.

 

For more than 30 years now, the GIPSY KINGS have captured the world’s imagination, ever since the release of their platinum-selling album in 1987, which included hits like “Djobi Djoba,” “Bamboléo,” and the romantic ballad, “Un Amor.” Since then, this party-starting ensemble has toured around the globe and sold 20 million albums worldwide. Their 2013 LP, Savor Flamenco, won that year’s Grammy Award for Best World Music Album.

OUR SONG, OUR STORY kicks off Black History Month with a powerful concert celebrating the music of Marian Anderson and Jessye Norman, whose great artistry and success led the way for generations of African American opera singers. This concert, created by conductor and composer Damien Sneed, features Raehann Bryce-Davisand Brandie Inez Sutton, two of the most exciting voices in opera today, accompanied by a string quartet and piano.

 

Each singer brings their colorful artistry to the table with solo performances as well as duets and trios. This will be an afternoon of memorable and beautiful music featuring some of the world’s best-known arias, art songs andspirituals in a diverse repertoire of works by George Frederic Handel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giacomo Puccini, Giuseppi Verdi, Richard Strauss, George Gershwin, Margaret Bonds, Harry T. Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world – crossing genres of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop – Thomas Lauderdale founded the “little orchestra” PINK MARTINI in 1994 to provide more beautiful and inclusive musical soundtracks for political fundraisers for causes such as civil rights, affordable housing, the environment, libraries, public broadcasting, education and parks.

 

Twenty-eight years later, PINK MARTINI still tours the world, singing in 25 languages at opera houses, concert halls, film festivals, museums and fashion shows. In 2014, PINK MARTINI was inducted into both the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame and the Oregon Music Hall of Fame.
