An Evening of Dramatic Opera Scenes

Florida Grand Opera (FGO) joins forces with the Florida International University School of Music to present “An Evening of Dramatic Opera Scenes” on October 15at 7:30 p.m., located at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center (10910 SW 17th Street, Miami, FL  33199).

The concert provides a unique opportunity for opera lovers and novices alike to enjoy a dramatic sampling of operatic repertoire featuring local talent and experienced voices from around the country. Held at FIU’s Mitch Maidique Campus, the program will delight guests with highlights from FGO’s current season as well as selections from some of the world’s most beloved operas, such as the romantic zarzuela Luisa Fernanda and Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette. Selections will be performed by members of FGO’s Young Artists Studio and the FIU Opera Theater.

Founded in 1984, FGO’s Young Artist Studio has gained worldwide recognition as one of the leading operatic training programs in the nation. Selected from more than 600 applicants, the nine artists make up the 2011-2012 program, which is designed to develop the skills necessary for a successful opera career through a mix of on-stage performance experience, regular coachings and master classes by acclaimed guest artists through a two-year residency.
