An Evening in Vienna

The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) performed on Sunday, Jan. 23, its signature annual concert, “An Evening in Vienna,” led by internationally famed Music Director & Conductor Eduardo Marturet. The event included great overtures, waltzes and dances, and featured MISO’s concertmaster violinist Daniel Andai as soloist.

The popular annual concert at the Adrienne Arsht Center emulated the traditional New Year’s Day concert performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which takes place every January 1 in Vienna.  In Austria, the demand for tickets to this concert is so high that concertgoers have to pre-register a year in advance in order to participate in a ticket drawing. Seats are reserved by Austrian families and shared from generation to generation. The concert has also enjoyed significant popularity in Miami for the past 20 years. This year for the first time, MISO partnered with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to invite cancer survivors and underprivileged families to its dress rehearsal on Sunday morning, as part of MISO’s newly introduced concept called MISO Behind the Scenes: Music for the Soul. This unique event led by Maestro Marturet enabled the almost 100 guests to enjoy a musical journey and witness the rehearsals and preparations for MISO’s formal performance that evening. MISO plans to continue to partner with other nonprofit organizations and corporations to offer this unique inside experience for children, families and individuals, many of whom would never have an opportunity to attend a live symphonic performance.

“An Evening in Vienna” is part of MISO’s innovative concert line-up, designed to appeal to all types of music lovers who have an affinity for everything from traditional classical music to contemporary sounds, including famous movie soundtracks. Upcoming concerts include “Visual Journey through Art and Music” on February 12 and 13, an artistic alliance with The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum featuring violinist Kristóf Baráti. Season subscriptions are on sale now. Three program subscriptions are available from $79 to $193, and full season subscriptions are available from $250 to $450, or nine programs for the cost of seven.
