Tuesday, October 20, 2009 – Miami, FL: The Miami Dolphins today announced that Kris Allen, American Idol Season Eight Winner – 19/Jive Recording Artist, will be the main act at the Dolphins’ tailgate stage on the Grand Plaza on Sunday, October 25th prior to the Dolphins-Saints game at 4:15 p.m.
“As a HUGE football fan I’m thrilled that the first gig for my band and me is at the Miami/New Orleans tailgate party,” said Kris Allen.
Best known for his folk-inspired interpretations of modern pop songs on his win of American Idol’s eighth season, singer-songwriter Kris Allen has since been finalizing his debut album which is set for release on November 17th. According to Allen, the new album promises to give listeners more of what they heard on American Idol, focusing on the pop/rock genre. Kris has had multiple songs appear on the Billboard charts since the finale of the reality TV show. His finale song, “No Boundaries,” was number one on the iTunes chart and subsequently he has had five songs on the Billboard charts.
Born in Jacksonville, Arkansas, music has been a passion for Kris Allen since he was a young child, having learned to play the viola and joining the school orchestra by the fourth grade. With the support of his parents, Allen followed his passion for music as a child and throughout high school. During his years in college he played “gigs” at night while working during the day. After marrying his girlfriend of seven years, Katy O’Connell, and going on their honeymoon, Allen flew to Hollywood for the Season Eight American Idol auditions where he survived elimination week-after-week and headed to the finale against semi-finalist Adam Lambert before winning the competition.
In addition to his love of music, Allen also has a passion for charity and has participated in missionary work in various places around the world including Burma, Morocco, Mozambique, South Africa, Spain and Thailand.
Having attracted artists such as Jimmy Buffett, Carmit Bachar of the Pussycat Dolls and Latin Grammy award-winning artists Jesse & Joy for Hispanic Heritage Month, the Dolphins’ tailgate stage has become a much anticipated element of the Dolphins’ home-game experience.
