YOU’RE WEARING THAT?!

Friday, May 14 at XX

What happens when you ask a seriously fashion-challenged mother and her equally style-less daughter to make each other over?  Total Drama!    In this new half-hour show, a mother and daughter duo get to vent about what’s NOT working in the other’s wardrobe. Throughout the process, our host, New York stylist Luciene Salomone, acts as the referee, and provides expert advice on how each woman can freshen up her style. But behind the joking is a real love between the women, who also get to express why they want a makeover for the other.  Maybe they’re about to embark on a few phase in life (a new job, a move to a new city, a new relationship – or the end of one), or maybe they think the other just needs a change. Working together with the help of Luciene, both mother and daughter are transformed, with new outfits, and the know-how to put together a beautiful wardrobe that will work for their individual lifestyles and personalities. In the end, their head-to-toe makeovers are revealed (including new hair and makeup) to a gathering of family and friends, who are wowed by their fresh new looks.  More importantly, mother and daughter experience a transformation together, and by the end of the journey, they will undoubtedly strengthen the bond they share.  Oh, the power of fashion!

SUNDANCE

Tortured Genius

Mondays, Starting March 1 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT

Sundance Channel explores the talent and troubles surrounding five complicated artists every Monday night in March.  Highlights include the U.S. television premiere of Jeff Feuerzeig’s The Devil and Daniel Johnston.

The schedule for “Tortured Genius” is as follows:

  • March 1: The Devil and Daniel Johnston (U.S. Television Premiere): Directed by Jeff Feuerzeig.  A moving portrait of singer/songwriter/artist Daniel Johnston, a cult rock hero whose supporters have included the late Kurt Cobain, Sonic Youth, The Flaming Lips and Tom Waits.  Weaving together current footage, vintage performances, home movies, and dozens of recorded audiotapes from Johnston’s life, Feuerzeig tells a story of talent and torment — and of the love that helped Johnston survive and return to creative life.
  • March 8: Let’s Get Lost : Directed by Bruce Weber.  This Oscar®-nominated documentary paints a dreamy portrait of Chet Baker, the handsome and notoriously self-destructive jazz vocalist and trumpeter who came to prominence as part of California’s cool jazz scene of the 1950s.  The film contains some of Baker’s final recording sessions, which are interwoven with rare performance footage, excerpts from Italian B movies featuring the young Baker, and candid interviews with Baker, musicians, friends, battling ex-wives and children.
  • March 15: Alice Neel: Directed by Andrew Neel.  One of the great portrait painters of the 20th century, Alice Neel reinvented the genre by expressing the inner landscape of her subjects, which included luminaries such as Andy Warhol, Bella Abzug and Allen Ginsberg as well as her neighbors in Spanish Harlem.  Tough and bohemian, Neel’s personal life was marked by destructive affairs, her struggle to raise her children alone, a mental breakdown and hospitalization. Attempting to come to terms with his enigmatic grandmother and generations of bruised feelings, filmmaker Neel presents his own incisive cinematic portrait.
  • March 22: A Walk into the Sea: Danny Williams and the Warhol Factory: Directed by Esther Robinson.  In her debut film, Robinson explores the circumstances surrounding the 1966 disappearance of her uncle, Danny Williams, who was part of the white-hot scene at Andy Warhol’s artistic headquarters, the Factory.  Robinson’s quest leads her to family members, professional acquaintances, and a roster of one-time Factory regulars.  Gradually, the scope of Williams’s personal and artistic trajectory emerges, as Robinson pieces together his creative trail as a filmmaker and a lighting designer for the Velvet Underground, as well as his romantic relationship with Warhol.
  • March 29: A Skin Too Few: The Days of Nick Drake: Directed by Jeroen Berkvens.  Rediscovered by a new generation when his 1972 song “Pink Moon” was used in a car commercial, British singer and songwriter Nick Drake (1948 – 1974) is now a cult icon, an influence on everyone from Kate Bush and Lucinda Williams to Elliott Smith and Elton John. This unconventional documentary profiles the brief life of the enigmatic troubadour, a painfully shy artist who released only three albums before dying from an antidepressant overdose.

The Green

Tuesdays, Starting March 2 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT

Now in its third season, THE GREEN offers entertaining primetime sources of information and inspiration about the planet we call home.  During March, THE GREEN will feature new episodes of the original series The River Cottage Treatment: Gone Fishing and innovative interstitial segments about environmental issues and innovators followed by a related documentary.    Presented by Robert Redford, THE GREEN programming block airs at its new time on Tuesday nights at 8:00pm, with additional broadcasts on Sundays at 10:00 a.m.

The schedule for “The Green” is as follows:

March 2: The River Cottage Treatment: Gone Fishing/Episode 1: Channel Island: In this three-part series, chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall travels around British Islands to fish delicious, sustainable alternatives to Britain’s imperiled piscatorial mainstays, cod and haddock.  Joined by two old friends, fish expert Nick Fisher and skipper Pat Carling, Hugh sails south to the Channel Islands, located between Britain and France.

  • Addicted to Plastic: Directed by Ian Connacher.  This award-winning documentary takes a lively, engrossing look at everything plastic: the many forms it takes; its history and evolution as 20th Century mainstay; and, above all, its massive environmental impact.

March 9: The River Cottage Treatment: Gone Fishing!/Episode 2: Herbrides: Hugh’s off to Scotland’s Hebrides islands, where on the sparsely inhabited island of Rona, he goes fishing with Caretaker Bill, who has run out of his frozen fish reserves and awaiting the annual return of the area’s mackerel.  After a close look at the woeful state of Scotland’s iconic fish, the wild salmon, Hugh tries out a traditional Scandinavian cooking method on salmon raised without chemicals by a local farmer.

  • The Greening of Southie: Directed by Ian Cheney.  This documentary goes behind the scenes and onto the scaffolds to follow the construction of Boston’s first green residential building, a luxury condominium complex called the Macallan.

March 16: The River Cottage Treatment: Gone Fishing!/Episode 3: The West Country: Hugh wraps up his fishing adventure in the West Country, in England’s southwest.

  • The Nuclear Comeback: Directed by Justin Pemberton.  In a world living in fear of climate change, the nuclear power industry has put its hand up as a solution.  This documentary goes on a worldwide tour of the nuclear industry in search of answers while exploring both sides of this growing debate.

March 23: The River Cottage Treatment: Hugh’s Chicken Run/Episode 1: Rerun of episode

  • Strait Through Ice: Directed by Yves Billy.  The melting of Arctic polar ice has led to an unexpected and radical geographic development: the emergence of a new maritime route between the Atlantic and the Pacific that is far shorter than the Panama or Suez Canals.  This French documentary explores the critical issues to be resolved by a handful of powerful countries as they weigh economic potential against environmental consequences.

March 30: The River Cottage Treatment: Hugh’s Chicken Run/Episode 2: Rerun of episode
