The Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum is pleased to announce our Seminole Story Days event on May 5th, 6th, and 7th, 2016. Seminole Story Days features a variety of presentations that highlight the various stories of Seminole history and culture – stories that are told, shared, and preserved at the Museum. These presentations highlight our Oral History Program and how the Museum uses these personal accounts and recollections to tell broader stories featured in our exhibits. They will showcase two exhibits: “Struggle for Survival, 1817-1858” and “Telling Our Stories”. “Struggle for Survival, 1817-1858” is one of our most ambitious exhibits yet. It immerses visitors in the Seminole Wars and features the important Buckskin Declaration, on display at the Museum only through November 24, 2016. Seminole Story Days also affords visitors a final opportunity to engage with the “Telling Our Stories” exhibit and listen to oral histories by Tribal members while learning more about our Oral History Program.
During Seminole Story Days, visitors can take guided tours of our “Struggle for Survival, 1817-1858” exhibit, learn more about period weaponry with Reinaldo Becerra through interactive “Tools of War” presentations, and watch our local Big Cypress Martial Arts group demonstrate tactics Seminole warriors used during the war era. Eric Griffis and Rebecca Fell will provide curator’s talks about our exhibits and oral histories. Tribal members Eden Jumper and Carol Cypress will also present.
Seminole Story Days is a project developed by Eden Jumper. A senior at the local Ahfachkee School, Eden is currently completing a marketing internship at the Museum. He developed a marketing plan and has created many marketing materials for this series of special “days”. Come join us to support this exciting student project!
