September 15th, 2011
Afro conTempo Dance Theater (ACDT), the first dance company in the United States to combine Afro-Peruvian folklore with Contemporary dance, hosts a Media Reception to announce the premiere of a production that will stage Afro-Peruvian history for the first time ever. The event will be held on September 15th, 2011 at Aromas Del Peru Restaurant (1930 Ponce De Leon Blvd., Coral Gables, FL 33134) at 7:30 p.m.
Marcela Diaz, creative director of ACDT, founded the company with intentions to introduce Peruvian traditions and folklore to audiences around the world. Marcela has successfully established herself as one of the first and youngest artists to ever fuse Afro-Peruvian dance with Contemporary Modern dance, receiving much recognition throughout Peru.
Using the rhythms of authentic instruments and the motions of original fusion dance steps, musicians and dancers are brought together to produce work that provides their audiences with energizing, heart-felt performances. ACDT seizes every opportunity to teach, hoping that people will embrace the beauty, history and elegance of Peruvian folklore as well as this new found fusion.
The production that will be featured for discussion on the night of the reception is titled ALMA EN BOCA. This project was fully directed and choreographed by Ms. Diaz and is scheduled to premiere on October 1st, 2011, with a special appearance by Grammy Nominated singer, Eva Ayllon. This performance is considered to be a monumental step for the Peruvian society, raising the bar for innovation within Afro-Peruvian culture.
All guests attending the Media Reception will be provided with Peruvian gourmet appetizers, cocktails, dance demonstrations, a Q & A session and other surprises.
