Miami’s Actors’ Playhouse is set to debut its first professional production of “Proof” in over 20 years, directed by Artistic Director David Arisco. The play, which follows the relationship between a mathematical genius and his daughter, has been hailed as one of the finest written in the last quarter-century. Starring Michael McKenzie as Robert, Jessica Sanford as Catherine, Daniel Llaca as Hal, and Stephanie White as Claire, the production promises an intimate experience for theater lovers. With support from cultural institutions and sponsors, “Proof” is a must-see for those looking to sink their teeth into some excellent character-driven writing.

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE

Preview performances will take place on Wednesday, May 17 and Thursday, May 18 at 8 p.m. The show will open on Friday, May 19 at 8 p.m. and the final performance will take place on Sunday, June 4. Evening performances will be held Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., with matinees on Sundays at 3 p.m.

DAVID AUBURN (Author) David Auburn’s plays include Proof (Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, New York Drama Critics Circle Award), An Upset and Amateurs (EST Marathons), and Skyscraper. Films include “The Girl in the Park” (writer/director) and “The Lake House.” Recent directing credits include A Delicate Balance for BTF. His short plays have been collected in the volume Fifth Planet and Other Plays (DPS). His work has been published in Harper’s, New England Review, and Guilt and Pleasure; and he was a contributing editor to the Oxford American Writers Thesaurus. A former Guggenheim Fellow, he lives in New York City.

DAVID ARISCO (Artistic Director/Director) has been Artistic Director of Actors’ Playhouse for 35 years, 27 at the Miracle Theatre. His diverse career spans over 45 years as director, actor, musical director, stage manager, symphonic conductor, and instrumentalist. Stage acting credits include Edna Turnblad in Actors’ Playhouse’s production ofHairspray and Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. Mr. Arisco has directed over 170 shows for Actors’ Playhouse, including the recently acclaimed productions of Escape to Margaritaville and Mamma Mia, and Carbonell- awarded productions of, Les Misérables, Aida, Floyd Collins, Violet, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, West Side Story, and The Mystery of Edwin Drood, all of which won for Best Production of a Musical. Mr. Arisco is the recipient of the George Abbott Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts and the Richard G. Fallon Award for Excellence in Professional Theatre from the Florida Professional Theatre Association. MICHAEL MCKENZIE (Robert) appeared at Actors’ Playhouse in last season’s Murder on the Orient Express. JESSICA SANFORD (Catherine) is so excited to be back at Actors’ Playhouse sharing the stage with these incredible storytellers under the direction of Dave Arisco. She is the proud owner of The Arts Buffet, a unique company that provides a menu of virtual and in-person performing arts classes. Jessica has spent the last two years as the director of the drama department at Pembroke Pines Charter High School. Her favorite professional regional credits include Logainne Schwarzy in Putnam County Spelling Bee with Slow Burn Theatre Co. and Officer Dwyer in Unnecessary Farce at Actors Playhouse.

 

DANIEL LLACA (Hal) is a Miami-based Cuban American artist working as an actor for both stage and screen. Recent credits include Magic Mike 3 (dir. by Steven Soderbergh) Summer Shorts 25th Anniversary (City Theatre) The Impracticality of…Mastadons (Theatre Lab) Nosotros La Gente (American Stage) The Amparo Experience(Broadway Factor) and Dave in the upcoming series Just My Type. Llaca is also a resident voice actor with Graphic Audio and has provided his voice for various clients including Spirit Airlines, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and HBO. STEPHANIE WHITE (Claire) Ecstatic to return to Actors’ Playhouse after playing Evelyn Nesbit in Ragtime (Wheeee!)!
