Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre presents an entire day of theatre fun for the whole family at the 18th Annual National Children’s Theatre Festival Kids Fest. Featuring a full schedule of cultural entertainment and hands-on activities, Kids Fest will be held at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from noon to 5 p.m.
In celebration of its 25th Anniversary Season, Actors’ Playhouse Musical Theatre for Young Audiences will showcase its first original production of Excellent Conquest as the featured musical of the 18th Annual National Children’s Theatre Festival. Excellent Conquest is a rock musical adventure that follows a group of classmates on a modern day quest to find a positive way to leave their mark on the world. Traveling via rollerblades, skateboards and BMX bikes, the troop of young adventurers turns to inhabitants of their community to help them find the way. With a two-story set consisting of multiple ramps, rock ‘n roll style music, concert lighting and stimulating special effects, Excellent Conquest will excite both the youngest and oldest audience member in this entertaining and thought provoking musical.
Kids Fest gives Actors’ Playhouse the opportunity to share the musical with the community and also integrate exciting cultural experiences for young people. Highlighting the Kids Fest this year will be a series of activity stations in which attendees can explore the creative arts in the following interactive stations: Puppet Passion, Costume Creations, Graffiti Art Area, Instrument Petting Zoo, Video “Dress Up” Studio, and more.
Attendees will be treated to Ed Allen’s award-winning show “Comedy Revue,” a delightful blend of magic, comedy sketches, juggling and puppets. Actors’ Playhouse’s acclaimed youth performing troupe, The Musical Miracles, will present a special performance of Miracles on Broadway featuring songs and dances from the hit Broadway musicals Shrek, Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors and more, along with a 4 p.m. performance of Into The Woods, Jr.
Characters like The Mad Hatter, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Prince Charming, The Fairy Godmother, Cycler the Robot and more will appear on the scene to take photos with guests.
“Kids Fest is a special treat for all the senses!” says Director of Musical Theatre for Young Audiences Earl Maulding. “From one minute to the next, children can watch a fantastic show and then travel throughout the theatre to create costumes and props that they can use to produce their own artistic piece.”
