Collectors’ Night with Dutch artist Niels “SHOE” Meulman at The Private Gallery on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 7:00–9:00 PM. Admission is free with RSVP, and guests will be among the first to see Meulman’s new body of work.
Hosted by the Museum of Graffiti’s Private Gallery, the evening spotlights Meulman’s groundbreaking writing style, Calligraffiti—a bold fusion of classical calligraphy and the raw energy of graffiti that bridges tradition and street culture. As Meulman says, “A word is an image and writing is a painting.”
In the graffiti world, Meulman is recognized as a true pioneer. Under the name SHOE, his iconic tags appeared throughout New York City in the 1980s alongside legendary artists such as Dondi White, Rammellzee, and Keith Haring. What began as a street-driven practice evolved into a dynamic gallery career that continues to push the boundaries between text and art.
Today, Meulman’s work spans paint-on-canvas, conceptual installations, and poetry—continually expanding the possibilities of Urban Contemporary art and cementing his influence on modern lettering and visual culture.
