Miami Hosts Debut of Third Season of mitú | Walmart Latino Filmmakers’ Initiative

Guiding and inspiring this new class is returning mentor Oz Rodriguez, the Emmy Award-winning director, producer, and writer best known for his groundbreaking work on Saturday Night Live.

Miami will be the venue for four compelling short films from the third season of the mitú | Walmart Filmmaker Mentorship Program, debuting at the 24th Miami Short Film Festival this November. This initiative, dedicated to empowering emerging Latino directors, comes at a time when Latino audiences fueled seven of the top ten films in 2024. Despite their audience power, Latino voices remain underrepresented in Hollywood, with only 1% of lead roles and 4.3% of directors among top-grossing films.

The program provides talented filmmakers with essential tools, resources, and mentorship to bring their stories to life, emphasizing themes of identity, culture, and transformation. With full access to mitú Studios in Los Angeles and a $10,000 equipment gift, participating filmmakers are poised to shape a more authentic and diverse narrative in film.

Miami’s vibrant and diverse community offers the perfect backdrop to elevate these stories, positioning the city as a hub for multicultural filmmaking and representation. This event underscores Miami’s growing influence in advancing Latino voices and creating meaningful cultural impact through cinema.
