Miami Seaquarium will temporarily close in late 2025 as part of a major transition, pending approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware expected in October 2025. Miami-based developer Terra has reached an agreement to assume the lease of the historic site, with plans to modernize the property into a family-friendly destination.
The redevelopment will introduce a new accredited aquarium without marine mammals, an immersive experience focused on Biscayne Bay’s environment, conservation, and education centers, along with retail, dining, and event spaces honoring Miami’s coastal legacy.
All animals will be responsibly transitioned to new homes, and the company is committed to maintaining staff wages and benefits throughout the process. This project aims to preserve Miami’s iconic waterfront site while transforming it into a community-loved attraction for generations.
