KIPP Miami announced today that it will launch KIPP Miami Technical High School (KIPP Miami Tech) in August 2026, a tuition-free, specialized public charter high school located on the Miami Dade College North Campus.
Opening with an inaugural ninth-grade class and growing to serve grades 9–12, KIPP Miami Tech will provide students with the academic foundation, professional skills, and real-world experiences necessary to excel in college or career pathways.
KIPP Miami Tech will offer three specialized career academies: Business, Commercial & Digital Arts, and Technology. Students will be able to graduate not only with a high school diploma, but also with college credits, industry-recognized credentials, and hands-on experience that provide a head start on their futures.
Students at KIPP Miami Tech will take real college courses on Miami Dade College’s North Campus, earning up to a year of credits before graduating, benefit from personalized advising from KIPP educators, college counselors, and industry mentors, and join a close-knit community that prepares them for independence, leadership, and opportunity.
“This is a unique, hands-on learning model for Miami high school students,” said Charlie Schmidt, Executive Director of KIPP Miami. “Our vision is to create a school that honors the brilliance of our students while equipping them with the skills they need to succeed in tomorrow’s economy,” said Schmidt.
With this launch, KIPP Miami expands its footprint from elementary and middle schools, currently serving more than 1,350 students at KIPP Royalty Academy and KIPP Courage Academy, to a full K–12 pathway that prepares students from Opa Locka and the Urban Core to live choice-filled lives.
KIPP Miami and KIPP New Jersey are sister regions within the national KIPP network, working in close partnership to share leadership, resources, and proven practices. The launch of KIPP Miami Tech builds directly on the strong track record of KIPP New Jersey’s high schools, ensuring Miami students benefit from a model with demonstrated success.
The founding principal of the high school will be Kinyette Henderson, a seasoned educator and school leader, and alumna of KIPP New Jersey middle school. Henderson brings deep experience from leading classrooms and schools across the country, along with a personal connection to KIPP’s mission and legacy.
“I’m thrilled to watch this high school come to life with our founding students,” said Kinyette Henderson, Founding Principal of KIPP Miami Tech. “As a KIPP alum, I know firsthand the power of excellent schools to change lives. I am honored to return to this network and to partner with our students and families in Miami to ensure they have access to both college and career pathways that lead to lasting success.”
