On View
Plotting Power: Maps and theModern Age

Mirrors of our loftiest dreams and deepest fears, maps draw literal lines between “you” and “me,” “us” and “other,” more often reflecting how we see it than how it is. This Wolfsonian collection exhibition follows the exploitation of geography in the first half of the 20th century, when thepossibilities of travel and technology opened new horizons for global ambition.

Street Shrines

In a new exhibition and building mural, potter Roberto Lugo looks to our significant collection of 19th- and 20th-century European and American ceramics, producing new work inspired by these objects but depicting the histories, experiences, and heroes of Black and Brown communities so often ignored by the historical record.

Turn the Beat Around

Rumba, conga, and Afro-Cuban jazz. Mambo, cha-cha-cha, and salsa. Turn theBeat Around revisits the artistic and innovative exchanges between musicians from Cuba and the U.S. during the 1930s to ’60s, showcasing posters, record and sheet music covers, film clips, and audio from the era to bring to life the musical fusion found between cultures.
